Description

STS Grade 4
This is another rare opportunity to stay in a charming detached stone cottage in secluded woodland surrounded by 5 acres of its own land. Situated in an elevated position 5.5 miles by road from Maentwrog village. The area enjoys magnificent mountain and valley views of Snowdonia. It is very comfortably furnished and a log fire gives it a warm and cosy atmosphere. Ample walks from the doorstep - this is a naturalist or artists' dream location. 40 min walk to Maentwrog and 'The Grapes', 12miles to Porthmadog and Harlech to lovely sandy beaches, golf courses, steam train rides, shops. There are excellent mountain bike trails through the forest at Coed y Brenin. Situated separately in its own grounds and own drive is this 'The Woodland Barn' which is 100 m away from the Woodland Cottage (our ref 5003) and set lower down the hill. Both properties are private from one another. The barn is secluded by trees from the main house and has its own private drive area. It is surrounded by 5 acres of its own natural grounds and with access to the managed working forest of 150 hectares. There are three unfenced ponds about 100m from the barn in the grounds, making it unsuitable for an unsupervised young child. The barn was recently refurbished to a high standard. A lovely retreat for two after a good day walking in Snowdonia.

Guest Feedback:
HB (April 2024): 4 STARS
"PLEASE, buy a new sofa! This was our third return to this beautiful location. Peaceful, tranquil with lots of wildlife. Our only negative, is the terrible, two
seated green sofa that was not fit for purpose when we first visited, 3 years ago. We were both so dismayed to see it still there in place, knowing how uncomfortable it is. When you go away on holiday, you want to be able to relax, seated comfortably. When you sit on this sofa, you are literally 3 inches off the floor, the is no suspension in it at all. The two, hard wooden arm chairs are equally uncomfortable. PLEASE, invest in new, seating furniture, for what is charged per week, you can afford to provide a comfortable, decent seating area"
Thanks for the Review - which are always forwarded to Property Owners for their consideration.
MFF (May 2023): 4.3 STARS "Amazing location in woodland nature reserve. Fantastic birdwatching base. Great little barn in very secluded location surrounded by nature. The barn is a great escape for a couple. It is in a Welsh rainforest nature reserve. Lots of birds on the doorstep and we saw a fox hunting in the meadow outside. And an osprey passed overhead too. The track to the barn was fine for a standard two wheel drive car/van if you take it slow. It's not that rough. Amazing place"
CP (July 2022): 5 STARS "The location was fantastic and nice and peaceful. Loads of walks straight from your doorstep, only met a few people whilst out walking. Would definitely go back"
KC (May 2022): 4.2 STARS "Perfect place, just what i thought it would be. In my view the only problem was presentation! It could do with a coat of satin brilliant white in the lounge dining area, and the windows and sills with a coat of bright varnish to brighten the room up! Oh and a new couch. Other than that my stay was perfect. Thank you, regards"
Mr R (July 2019): "Hi, just thought you might like to know, simply to update your literature, but we can get a very decent phone signal here, at least on 3 and Vodafone, both 3g and 4g. Would be useful for future visitors as I would have brought a laptop with me if I thought there would be a chance of a connection in the cottage."
Mr & Mrs C (April 2016): "The barn was cosy, warm and comfortable. We will be back."
D & J (May 2016): "A stunning location and comfortable accommodation. Lots to see and do locally with some great walking just from the cottage itself. Just a word about the fire, you may find it a bit smoky but it helps if you build it towards the back of the grate."
C & D (May 2016): "Needed a place to escape from the everyday demands of a busy life. This place provided that."
J&M (July 2017): "What a wonderful place- thank you for letting us share it. Hope to come again."
S & H (July 2017): "Nice to be back in the cottage- had lovely weather."
Mr & Mrs M: "Delightful cottage on wonderful secluded location perfect for walking and taking time to slow down, feeling fully recharged and rested as we head home"
Mr & Mrs G: "Lovely cottage in a fabulous location, we had a lovely time!"
Mrs M: "It's well worth it if you like peace and quiet!"
Mr & Mrs C: "What a find! Beautiful romantic hideaway in idyllic location, had a lovely weekend and could recommend to friends. Just the place for a bit of peace...lovely"

Visit Wales Comments (November 2019):
"Set in secluded woodland not far from the village of Maentwrog with access via a forestry road. Cae'n Y Coed provides an ideal location for a getaway holiday with the grounds kept natural to complement the surroundings. Open plan lounge/kitchen/diner with tiled floor, log burner and central heating. Well equipped kitchen."
