"Deceptively spacious and fitted and furnished to a very nice standard, Siop Fach provides comfortable self catering accommodation in the popular village of Beddgelert. Excellent housekeeping throughout."
Parking for 'Siop Fach Cottage' is street parking outside of the property. Access to 'Siop Fach Cottage' is up 2 steps (which can be seen in the photographs). Leaving the lounge to the kitchen there are a further 2 steps, these bring you to the kitchen/dining area and also a ground floor shower room with WC. Through the kitchen is a back door with 4 steps (highest step is about 20cm) leading to a shaded patio area with table and 2 chairs. There are a further 6 steps from here leading to another patio area with another table and 4 chairs plus a bench to relax on. Once you are here you can go up a further 5 steps which will lead you to the wonderful woodland garden. For access to the first floor there is a set of stairs (12 steps) which leads you to 2 bedrooms and a bathroom.
The cottage is a great place to stay. It's in a great location near some amazing walks and an ice cream parlour.
It's comfy and surprisingly spacious. I'd read a few reviews about it smelling and feeling damp. But we didn't get that at all and it rained quite a bit.
It's got everything you need (including netflix!) and the garden is huge! The kids and dog loved it. We were very sad to leave and we're already planning on going back next year.
We would come back every year if we could. Loved it! We had an issue and the owner sorted it very quickly, everything was great, we felt very at home and the location (apart from parking) is incredible.
The cottage is well located with all the amenities of Beddgelert within walking distance and a lovely walk along the river literally over the road from it.
The cottage itself is roomy and well furnished, sofa's are comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need. Both bedrooms are nicely decorated and the cottage was very clean, however, it was very damp. The smell of damp when we walked in was overwhelming and a member of our party who has asthma was affected by it. I know the cottage is old, we have had a particularly wet summer and we had a very rainy day when we were there but everything felt damp by the end of the stay. It's such a shame because it is a fabulous cottage otherwise.
The cottage has very comfortable furniture and beds. The kitchen was well stocked with crockery, pots and pans etc. The garden patio and hillside garden were lovely and a fabulous place to sit for breakfast and in the evening just listening to the birdsong and looking at the views. (The garden furniture could do with a clean and maybe some cushions to make it more usable.) Useful to have two bathrooms, however neither were in great condition and the showers were very slow. If you wanted hot water you had to remember to switch this on in good time. Likewise the towel rails - we never managed to get these hot enough to dry our towels. The cottage looks very cosy and welcoming but is rather damp and cold in the evenings and mornings. It was warmer to eat breakfast outside than in the kitchen. There were a lot of air fresheners to mask the dampness (the smell of the air fresheners were rather strong and not very pleasant !). However it is an old cottage and therefore dampness is to be expected. There were efficient electric heaters, two water heaters and two towel rails - however with the restriction on electricity use we were constantly checking the meter to make sure we didn't use too much power and run out of power; consequently we only used the heaters when we felt really cold.
The village of Beddgelert is a fantastic location for exploring the National Park, so much to see and do and we will definitely revisit to see more in the future.
This was the second time at this cottage. Today l booked again for next year.
Such a lovely location. The cottage is cosy, and in a quiet location on the edge of the village. We had a wonderful sunny week.
The staff at STS Holidays were very helpful too.
This property needs a bit of attention from the owners. Upon entering we were overwhelmed with a musty damp smell that permeated the whole property, including all of the kitchen utensils and furniture. We had to re-launder all of our clean clothes once we returned home to remove the smell. This is probably due to a lack of ventilation/habitation over some time. We had to empty two damp-catching devices which were full to the brim with water then attempt to aerate the property to remove the smell, to little avail.
A couple of simple investments would make a big difference to the comfort and experience-new mattresses (pocket sprung) and a modern, freeview HD TV with access to apps would be nice for evening entertainment.
The location of the property is great and it has potential to be a lovely holiday let, but it was rather disappointing to stay somewhere that felt so neglected and below the basic standards that we are accustomed to in our own home.
We left behind some items and the owner is very kindly arranging to post them to us. Keys were ready for us when we arrived. The weather was poor, so we couldn't take advantage of the outdoor seating with views.
Great base to tour Snowdonia, a few pubs and very nice pizza parlour, there's also a bistro for food and drinks. A selection of walks from Beddgelert means you dont have to use the car. But make sure you pack for all weathers.
What a lovely cosy cottage. Although we had pretty good weather for September, it does get quite cool in the evenings, but the cottage was cosy and warm.
We went to the beach a couple of days which my poodle Molly loved.
Also there are lots of good walks around Bedgellert to enjoy.
Our stay ar the cottage was generally very good. However, the place is tired and needs a bit of TLC and a spruce up. Small touches (at little expense) would make the property better for guests eg hand-wash (3 bottles with 1 squirt in each wasn't great), foil, plastic containers to store food or take a picnic out etc. We bought Bleach to clean the toilets. The shower screens weren't properly functional and the upstairs bathroom shelf was badly painted. A new one would cost a handful of pounds. The main bedroom mattress wasn't good and a king size (or even a mattress topper) would improve what's there.
In terms of location, it is ideally situated and for this reason I recommend it. As someone who owns and rents out holiday accommodation, I recommend that Siop Fach has a bit of money spent on it and some thought put in for what travellers need. It could be a gem of a place.
This is our 3rd time staying in the cottage and our 5th time staying in the village..
The cottage is lovely, well maintained and very comfortable… our little dog loves the grassy bank at the back of cottage.. patio area is lovely to sit out on and enjoy the early and evening sunshine.
My daughter and I will definitely be back next year..
Upon entering the cottage it was very cold and smelt damp. We read the cottages info book & was horrified to find we only had a £40 electricity allowance, which given current ricing is nothing. We decided to be frugal and only turned each water heater on for a short while before using, and the lounge radiator briefly in a morning, yet by late on day 4 we had less than £20 less. Thereafter we used the lounge and kitchen radiators more frequently and had 80p left on the meter when we left. We like our bedroom to be cool so we didn't put the radiator on in there, but we hadn't realised how damp it was because when we got home our nightware absolutely stank of a mildew type smell.
We started using the log burner on the 2nd night, the cost of logs, kindling & fire lighters in the local shop were high & we must have spent almost £30 by the end of the week and on 5 occasions the smoke alarms were triggered as smoke gushed out when we were reloading wood, the flue clearly wasn't functioning properly.
The 2 garden tables & their chairs were not clean and entering via the back door was precarious at the very least.
The front bedroom's mattress was poor so neither of us slept well.
The lounge furniture was comfortable and the kitchen facilities were more than adequate for our needs.
I raised all the above issues with STS Holidays & they tried to help, but it is really down the owner to put greater commitment into the place.
We won't be returning.
