Description

STS Grade 4

Situated in the charming mountain village of Beddgelert, which is said to derive its name either from the faithful hound of Prince Llewellyn, or that of a Celtic missionary, depending on the view of history you subscribe to. This Grade II listed cottage has been sympathetically yet lovingly restored and extended to provide a contemporary kitchen, through lounge with slate hearth and wood burning stove. Guest Feedback:
AF (November 2023): 4.8 STARS
"Excellent cottage and location. Everything very good except for heating arrangements. Guests need to be in control of heating during the stay. Was very cold and could not control the heating." Thanks for the comments, which are always passed on to the Property Owners. Once we were made aware of the issue, we contacted the Owner and they "turned up" the heating remotely.

Issues previously reported regarding the hot water system have been resolved.
JB (October 2023) Excellent "We enjoyed a wonderful stay here, the cottage was cosy and intimate, but with enough space for 4 of us when we needed it. The facilities were brilliant and we love the location. The rooms were lovely and well prepared, beds are soft and comfy. The only drawback was the log burner didn't really burn hot enough to enjoy the fire although the visual of flames was still fun. We will definitely be happy to stay here again." Thank you for the feedback we have passed on the feedback about the fireplace to the owner of the cottage.
DS (September 2023): Excellent "This is a cosy cottage within easy walking distance of the shops and tourist info centre in Beddgelert. And it's also easy to access walks here along rivers and up hills without using the car. Shops in town include post office and village shop, which sells most things, outdoor shop and various gift shops. Tourist info centre very helpful and full of guides and maps. The cottage has comfy sofas and beds, and the kitchen has everything you need to make meals. The shower works well. The wood burner makes the sitting room cosy. Very happy with our stay."
CF (September 2023): Excellent "Good location. Very comfortable accommodation. From the cottage there are interesting local walks by the river and it’s a short walk to good pubs/restaurants and food shop. Makes an excellent base for exploring Snowdonia"
GH (August 2023): Excellent "Very nice. This place was very clean and very cosy and is situated in a very good location I would recommend this to anyone"
GA (August 2023): 4.3 STARS "Lovely cottage in great location. Positives: lovely, airy, quiet cottage. Felt modern and updated inside but with historic features. Well equipped. Starter pack of dishcloth, washing up liquid, dishwasher and washing machine tabs provided. Good shower. Great location in Beddgelert - walking distance to centre of village, good bus route nearby (buses every hour) and walks from the doorstep. On road parking always available within 100 yards. Negatives: towels not included (contrary to cottage.com website) but rectified before we arrived. Hot water was tepid and not rectified during our stay so not able to use the bath (owner tried and slight improvement but still only marginally warm. Plumber never arrived despite promise). Face, hand, pan washing not warm enough so needed to boil a kettle. Shower could have done with a squeedgy as had to use a towel to wipe and there was black mould in it. Logs provided for fire would not burn despite all efforts so had to buy our own. All in all, would definitely stay again as we loved it especially if the water is warmer next time" Thanks for the Review - which are always passed on to the Property Owner. A new plumber has been engaged, and he and an electrician will be doing a joint inspection ASAP in order to get the problem rectified ASAP.
PW (July 2023): Excellent "Great location for our Wales Adventure! The cottage was in a perfect location. It enabled us to venture out every day and explore new things and new places around Snowdonia. We climbed Snowdon one day, visited the beach on another, went to zipworld and visited a local copper mine. All these places were maximum an hour away but most were on our doorstep. Due to the perfect location, parking close to the cottage was limited and was on a first come first serve basis outside the cottage (for both sides of the street) so we made sure we came home around 4ish most days. There were plenty of places to visit within walking distance from the front door of the cottage. Including a historic story about a faithful dog who was killed by his master in a tragic accident. His grave and statue were just a short walk away. The village has a few pubs (which we made use of!) which served food (not late into the evening so make sure you head out to town early around 6/7ish). There was a little shop (which had the post office) and had lots of things that we needed but if you wanted a “bigger” shop head to Porthmadog which was only 10-15 mins away by car. Also in the village was a train station (We didn’t use it) but believe it ran from Porthmadog - Beddgelert - Caernarfon. A local Copper Mine was just up the road. Was a self guided tour and lasted about 40 mins. Kids enjoyed going in the underground caves. Just up the road is a beautiful scenic area called “Watkins Path”. About a mile up this route are some beautiful clear waterfall pools that you can take a dip into. The water is super clear and a refreshing experience on a hot day. The cottage had a fully equipped kitchen and we made some lovely meals for our family of four (We brought our “Hello Fresh” box with us and also bought some supplies from Tesco’s at Porthmadog). There was a Japanese style bath (which I loved but had mixed thoughts from the family!) There was also a shower. The kids shared a room with two single beds but they also had a sink and toilet. Heating was controlled by a nest device which you weren’t able to override. So the heating came on in the morning (although not early) for a few hours and again in the evening (I’m not sure what times) but we were able to control the radiators if we felt too hot. There was also a log burner (with some wood and newspapers) if you felt the chill in the evening. We did the first couple of nights before we realised we could turn the radiators up. But from reading comments online - I believe you could speak with the people that ran the cottage if you wanted the times adjusted (say earlier or later). Overall we had a great break - We made lots of memories with our kids and will definitely return!!! 5 stars ⭐️"
IC (May 2023): Excellent "Lovely long weekend. The plaice was clean and the position was perfect. Lots of pubs and great walks. We will definitely go back there"
CC (April 2023): Excellent "Fantastic cottage, everything you need and more. Plenty of space, really clean, lots of kitchen equipment, ideal location in village. We had a fab stay. Property was lovely and warm. Great shower. Couldn't have asked for better"
Mr & Mrs W (March 2023): Good "Really well located, the wood burning stove was lovely for a winter stay. The cottage was clean and well equipped."
Mr & Mrs H (March 2023) Good "The cottage was beautiful, clean and had everything in it we could need. location is perfect for walking in Snowdonia. we had an issue with hot water during our stay but we managed ok without a need for a maintenance man to disturb our holiday. Our only real gripe is that the heating is limited to 8am-10am and 5pm-9pm. i appreciate increased costs of late but i feel this should be within the guests control. we were up by 6am and the house was very cold. we were out before it came on and back to a cold house again waiting for it to switch on again at 5pm. all in all we enjoyed our short stay and would recommend it during the summer, the heating would put me off staying in winter/ early spring again though." Thank you for your kind feedback. The issue with the hot water for the sinks is now resolved, it was a faulty diverted valve. Thank you for drawing our attention to it. In most cases the heating coming on at 8am is soon enough for guests on holiday as the house keeps warm overnight. It then comes on ready for the guests return from their days out in Snowdonia. The wood burning stove makes the house very cosy and a starter pack is left for guests If anyone one has special requests for earlier heating please contact us on 01766 51 38 29.
RL (October 2022): Excellent "Lovely stay, very clean cottage on the route for the Snowdon marathon."
JAH (September 2022): Excellent "Perfect cottage to stay in Beddgelert. Very comfortable including the double bed. The kitchen fully equipped for our needs. Couldn’t fault anything apart from there being no guest book which is always useful to see where other guests had visited or which restaurants they had eaten at. Would definitely stay at Quarryman’s cottage again"
MW (September 2022): 3.8 STARS "A lovely holiday based in the Quarryman’s Cottage. We have visited Beddgelert on many occasions and have enjoyed the location so many times we keep coming back. The is time we booked the quarryman’s cottage based on its location, website images and it is dog friendly. The cottage is small, well looked after and snug. It provided exactly what was advertised and we have no complaints at all. Would recommend this to anyone"
SB (July 2022): 4.3 Stars "A really nice place to stay. We stayed 4 weeks and didn't find any reason to be unhappy about. During our stay it was the hottest weeks of the year and upstairs it was hot (logical). Partly because of the hot water installation. Downstairs it was really nice and cold. Parking was mostly within 20m of the property but it is a small street with a fair amount of traffic. We didn't have any issues with my large ford galaxy but for people with fancy cars this could be a small item. A small issue was easily straightened by squiky clean the cleaning firm so kudos for them . We stayed with 4 people and could have used a bigger cooking pot for boiling spaghetti. The large store is about 15 minutes away and the small lokal store is packed with most stuff to help U out. There are five very nice places to eat all in walking distance. All in all a very nice place to stay in a very historical village. Really nice base to start from for long walks."
PH (June 2022): 4.3 STARS "We had a good time at the cottage, very convenient place in village , 200 metres walk. It was inconvenient having to bring towels with us from New Zealand and think this needs addressing as UK has no restrictions now and we didnt do this elsewhere. There is an outside area to sit at the front, but not really at the back of the cottage. This would have been nice. I cannot thank Lee at STS enough for his help and would recommend using STS. Very prompt service , answered any questions immediately. We had a lovely week there . A nice little cottage in beautiful Beddgelert"
HSC (April 2022): Excellent "Fab week in Beddgelert. Excellent home from home property. All rooms very clean. Kitchen fully equipped with a full range of utensils etc. Bedrooms clean and fresh with very comfortable beds. Would definitely stay again, given the chance"
D H & Family (October, 2018): "This was our first holiday at Caernarfon and in this lovely holiday house. We have all had a fantastic time! We enjoyed watching the wildlife outside, Bounce Below and the Fforest Coaster. We'll be back! :-)"
R (April 2018): "We are finishing up our two weeks here at Quarryman's Cottage in Beddgelert. We have had the most wonderful time and the cottage has been fantastic. We would highly recommend both the village and the cottage - it was absolutely perfect for us."
The S Family (Aug, 2017): "Fab cottage, a real home-from-home. Beddgelert is beautiful and very well served for eating out. Lots of great walks & attractions on the doorstep too."
The L Family (Aug, 2017): "Had a lovely time, especially on the train and bike hire from beside the station."
Mr & Mrs S (Aug, 2017): "Excellent location, lovely cottage - ideal for walking. Had a great holiday."
The H Family (Aug, 2017): "We had a lovely time with this cottage as a home-base! It is in a great location and allowed us to climb Snowdon, kayak in lake gwynant and jump off elephant rock, white water raft and Go Below. There are good places to eat in town (the ice-cream place is very tasty). Thanks for the lovely cottage for us to stay in!"
Ms H (July, 2017): "We had a lovely stay and the cottage was perfect - cosy and comfortable. WiFi worked great for us. We enjoyed the local hiking - the Watkin path up Snowdon is nearby and beautiful. Thanks for a wonderful home base for the week!"
The M family & Winston the Labrador (July, 2017): "Beautiful village, would love to return. Very lucky with the weather. The cottage was perfect: clean, cosy and in the perfect location. Wish we'd had longer and don't want to go home!"
The R Family (April, 2017): "This is such a lovely, homely cottage in a charming village. Our family have had a fantastic week exploring the area & climbing the hill. Thank you for the milk & Welsh cakes, much appreciated - so amazing. We've loved it here."

Visit Wales Comments (December 2019):
"This attractive terraced cottage continues to provide comfortable accommodation in the popular village of Beddgelert. It continues to be very well maintained and presenting to a modern contemporary standard with no major changes from the previous visit. It also apprears since the previous grading visit occasional lamps have been upgraded as well as the pans."

Unrestricted parking on the same side of the road as the cottage. There are 2 steps up into the lounge of the cottage which goes through to the kitchen/breakfast room which has a table for 4 persons. In the lounge there is a wood burning stove in the fire place with no fireguard. There is a door to the back patio which is small with a side gate with right of way round the side to the road. There are open tread stairs up to the first floor from the lounge which parents of young children should note.
There is no stairgate. The treads of the stairs are un carpeted and there is a hand rail on the right hand side as you go up. These are of standard width. The landing has a bannister and the two bedrooms and bathroom lead off this. The shower cubicle has a rise of 8" into a square 90cm square tray with plastic door. The Japanese tub is 36" long 28" wide with a bathing depth of 20". To climb in to the bath you can step in if you are agile. We would say this was not suitable for the infirm, but great for bathing the children. There are no grab handles.
