JB (April 2024): 4.3 STARS
"Amazing view. Nice cosy little apartment, had everything that you need. It was all about the view. Definitely will be booking again!"
DH (October 2023): Excellent "We had a lovely time at Captain Jacks. Very comfortable, great location, very handy for town centre and stunning views. Thanks for making our short stay a very pleasant one."
BI (September 2023): Excellent "Nice view towards the harbour"
VB (September 2023): 4.7 STARS "Wonderful holiday at Captain Jack’s. 3rd stay at Captain Jack’s and as usual everything was at a high standard. Wonderful location, property has such a homely atmosphere, looking forward to coming back again next year"
RA (September 2023): Excellent "The accomodation is clean, well-designed and cozy. Thanks for the lovely holidays!"
JC (September 2023): 4.5 STARS "Fabulous location and view. Captain Jack's was great. The views are amazing, the location is in a quiet part of Porthmadog but only a short walk from shops and restaurants. We really enjoyed sitting on the balcony morning and evening, watching and listening to the steam trains, listening to curlews from the nature reserve and watching the boats going in and out of the little harbour. Not to mention the ever changing colours of the mountains. The apartment had everything we needed with a pretty and well equipped kitchen. It was lovely to be able to soak in a bath after a long day of walking in the mountains. A few things in the apartment are looking a bit tired and could do with refreshing and tidying up but this didn't impact on our stay in way - more a case of first impressions (e,g. worn bar stools, old sealant in bathroom and kitchen, rusty chair on the balcony, rubbish and full mop bucket left on balcony). The big clock in the kitchen is very pretty but didn't work even when we put a new battery in it. The neighbours were friendly and very quiet (or away) but for a few nights the apartment with a room directly above the bedroom at Captain Jack's was occupied and the creaky floor boards in that room meant that we were woken up in the middle of the night and around 5.30am several days in a row. However, we had a fantastic week, very much enjoyed the apartment and would definitely consider going back again" Thanks for the Review - which are always passed on to the Property Owner.
AR (Aug 2023): Excellent "Walked in and not disappointed. The view was amazing, better than expected. The flat was clean with all we needed. Managed to park opposite the front door for all 3 days. Enjoyed sitting outside. Perfect location for the area. Would definitely recommend and would revisit. Many thanks"
SC (Aug 2023): 4 STARS "Lovely view and surroundings. Easy to get about. Peaceful. Lovely balcony for chilling. Was cosy and comfy. Very responsive when I needed some extra bits. Lovely and welcoming."
DR (July 2023): 4.3 STARS "Another super stay! This is the second time we have stayed at Capt Jack's and we love it. It's a fantastic location with beautiful views central to everything in Porthmadog. The facilities are excellent and we always find the apartment in very good condition. I think the bedroom could do with a dehumidifier but that's my only recommendation. We'll be back next year!" Thanks for the Review - which are always passed on to the Property Owner.
RT (July 2023): 4.3 STARS "We enjoyed our 4th visit to Captain Jacks but our last day was tinged with sadness and disappointment as we cannot return due to the extortionate increase in price for next year." Thanks for the Review. This property will be on Dynamic Pricing next year, which means that the computer system will be in charge of setting the prices. The system is designed to maximise Bookings and income for the Property Owner by looking at prices for similar properties in the area, how Bookings are doing generally for that time of year, how the particular property is Booking compared to its peers, and how far off the arrival date is - a price is then determined. We have been advised that there will inevitably be some hiccups initially, but that these can easily be rectified and that this sort of system is the way forward for the self-catering industry and STS have decided to go this way and join the many other Agencies in using this and similar systems.
JG (April 2023): Excellent "We had a lovely holiday in Porthmadog, staying in Captain Jack’s. It was a great base for our Welsh adventures. The view from the huge window is stunning and there is so much to see and do within walking distance or just a short drive."
DH (October 2022): Excellent "Great place for watching the trains. It's the second time at jacks and it was good to be there great for town and watching trains 10/10"
JT (July 2022): Excellent "Amazing find. Very comfortable and memorable holiday due to the wonderful panoramic views of Porthmadog Harbour and mountains"
R (May 2022): 4.8 STARS "From the time we opened the door to our room and saw those steps,we thought,oh no.but when we got downstairs and saw the rooms and the fantastic views,it was well worth it.the kitchen and dining area was fantastic, imagine having breakfast, seeing that view, and snowdon in the back ground.the bedroom was large, and the bathroom was excellent.the lounge area was fantastic, and the patio was the best we have seen for views.we often sat on the patio looking at the boats and steam trains, and just enjoying the views.the only negative was the steps down to the room and the steps down to the harbour, but we overcame this by going down in the morning by the steps, and coming back using the main road.there are lots of shops, charity shops and bakery, fish and chips shop, cafe!s and restaurants.lots to see and lots to do.fantastic holiday"
Mr D (March 2022):I would recommend this apartment to my friends and family, stairs a bit steep but otherwise very good."
Mrs Q (September 2021): Good "Fabulous location although the entrance to the apartment was a nightmare to narrow and stairs very steep, once you were in and exist at the back it was okay, need a light on the passage way to the stone steps very dark and slippery if it had rained I have stayed in a lot of properties in the Porthmadog and surrounding areas, I found house keeping a little bit to be desired as we found a pair of tweezers side of the couch and a lot of dust, glasses and glass dishes stained which I had no intention of washing as not my dirt so I used the minimum pots. I was not able to access the WiFi so had to phone to get the code and was then asked to add it to the guest book I normally book with Sykes I wouldn't rule out booking with STS again as I'm looking to come back to Porthmadog in November my 3rd visit this year and I did like the apartment apart from issues stated ." Under PARKING, we state "Street Parking on Garth Road or Pencei car park (which is at the bottom of the Grisiau Mawr (Big Steps) historic steps). There is also a lot of information under ACCESS button on the website. Old cottages may not conform to modern Building Regulations. Cleanliness issues will be passed on to the Property Owner's Deputy. Thanks for bringing these matters to our attention.
Miss G (August 2021): Good "Beautiful town. Lovely apartment. Me and my partner really enjoyed this holiday. Only problem was the weather which nobody can control"
Ms R (August 2021): Excellent "Nicely equipped, very well positioned, super view"
Mr H (October, 2019): Good "Superbly positioned and furnished. Clean. Narrow access the only drawback."
Mr O (October 2019): Excellent "The booking was so easy and the apartment was excellent very clean and the view was gorgeous all in all l we had a very relaxing week"
Mrs P (August 2019): "Thank you for a lovely week at Captain Jack's. Myself & my two little dachshunds are back home now with all our other dogs/creatures & back to the daily grind. We might only have been an hour away from home but it felt a million miles away to get a bit of rest & relaxation from the daily grind. Thank you for providing a lovely clean home from home relaxing apartment which I appreciated very much being quite a clean/neat freak myself it was very much appreciated."
Mr O (August, 2019): Good "Property was very clean, had a very good kitchen area, with a great view from the patio."
Mrs S (August, 2019): Good "Lovely location, fabulous scenery and places to visit. The stairs down into the lovely apartment and steps up to or down to the nearby roads, footpaths might be difficult for those not used to steps."
Mrs O (July, 2019): Excellent "Lovely well equipped apartment in a great location."

This apartment is worth it for the wonderful views. It was clean and tidy and had most things we needed (kitchen scales, a working tin opener and more than one toilet roll would be useful!). It's a great location to explore the area with so many things on your doorstep and some great little pubs and places to eat within Portmadog. Although the access at the front isn't for anyone with mobility problems we didn't have any issues but the back entrance is a bit easier if you do (still plenty of steps!). Parking isn't easy but if there was none on the street above we found some in the square below. The one thing we found a bit off-putting was the list of things we were expected to do when we left. I believe this is a requirement of STS holidays and not the owners. We never leave places in a mess but to be asked to empty all bins and recycling, strip the beds, put everything back in the place we found it (sorry didn't take a picture!) and vacuum the floors, on threat of a minimum £20 bill for non compliance, seemed a little OTT. It is supposed to be a holiday after all!

The ratings are made up as we never actually made it to the property as we were nursing my dying father and despite taking out insurance, we lost every penny of our money and my father died. Very disappointed as expected more sympathy from a small business

The apartment was clean, modern, and well equipped for creature comforts; however, during our 5 nights stay, the bedroom had a mouldy smell, especially during the nighttime which had prevented us from sleeping in the bedroom, instead we have had to sleep on the sofa for the entire stay. There is the multicoloured growths on the external wall facing the bedroom which can be seen through the double UPvc doors.
