This ground floor flat is in a purpose built holiday property. Approach is from a quiet no through road into a semi enclosed tarmac parking area with dedicated parking 10 meters from the front door.
The designated parking is suitable for one vehicle and is in a well-lit area just 10yds from the property. Access to the flat is up one concrete step. The flat has a standard size upvc front door leading into a compact hall area. From this area there are doors to the bathroom, bedroom and the open plan living area with galley kitchen. From the living area there is a sliding patio door to the patio which is down one step and garden which is down a further 2 steps.
There is good lighting throughout the property with both a ceiling light and a lamp in the living area, a spotlights in the kitchen area and ceiling lights and matching bedside lamps in the bedroom.
The shower room has a WC, hand wash basin and a large shower tray and shower door. The shower is electric and there is very small step into the shower. Again there is good light with a ceiling light and shaving socket and light.
The flat is quite compact and not suitable for wheelchairs.
There is no barrier to the harbour wall.
It was our second stay and we love the compact apartment with allocated parking and a glorious view to wake up to. The cleaning was a bit below par this year but Snowdonia Tourist Services were once again brilliant at sorting out the few little problems. We were pleased that the TV had been upgraded to a smart TV. Would just like the duvet to be upgraded now! We love that the High Street shops, cafes, restaurants, the Ffestiniog and Heritage railways and beautiful Borth y Gest beaches are all within walking distance.
A wonderful ground floor flat with an outstanding view.
The one bedroom flat was comfortable and well appointed.
Parking and storage was more than adequate.
There were three problems with our stay two of which were seen too immediately by the local excellent agents.
The hot water however was so slow in both the kitchen and bathroom that kettles had to be used and the wash basin plug did not fit.
We would like to go there again soon.
This was our first stay in an apartment. There wasn't any negatives if you're used to apartment living. The apartment was just right for the two of us being a reasonable size for a weeks stay. The location was superb being on the waterfront, we could watch the yacht (Sundance) rise and fall with the tide and look out for the wading birds at low tide. It was also well placed for walking to the town (5 mins) or a stroll along the quayside in the evening. Overall, a nice, tidy apartment - a great place to stay in Porthmadog.
We booked Harbour escape for four nights. Out initial impression on walking in was positive. The best point being the location. The scenic view of the yachts and harbour and the mountains in the background from the patio door was very nice.
Although the apartment had been cleaned and prepared it was not a thorough preparation. Two empty plastic hand soap dispensers on the shower/loo washbasin. Salt and pepper grinders both virtually empty. No kitchen paper towel roll in the worktop holder. We couldn't find any cling film or cooking foil. The sofa, although not grubby, needed cleaning. My wife dropped some coins down the back of the sofa cushions and noticed the back was full of crumbs. The bedside torch had flat batteries. The hot and cold taps on the kitchen sink and the washroom basin are the wrong way round and the hot water tap pressure is very low, due to the low head of the gravity fed system. Ideally needs a modern well insulated unvented cylinder. We were continually heating up the immersion heater which was not helped by the poor lagging on the hot water cylinder.
The above did not spoil our holiday but meant we shopped for items that we would have not expected to have had to do.
Car parking, which is directly outside the apartment, has tight allocated spaces, especially if your car is on the larger side.
The location is ideal for walking access to the town centre and for costal walks. We enjoyed a 4.5 mile walk to Black Rock Sands and caught the bus back to Porthmadog. Overall we had a very pleasant break and would recommend the apartment especially if the low cost items were provided and the apartment had been more thoroughly prepared.
In spite of a mixed week of changeable Autumn weather, every day was a joy at Harbour Escape. With a mix of steam trains, tides, mountains and wildfowl to observe from the apartment window we found it difficult to find a reason to go out. The facilities were clean and comfortable and provided everything we needed - with one exception! After a week of struggling with the TV satellite system, we still only achieved a couple of channels which cut out every so often. We did however come away more rested having watched less TV!
