Description

STS Grade 3+

A superb first floor apartment above the waterside on Oakley Wharf, Porthmadog, lovely and spacious with views of the Glaslyn valley, Ballast Island and Snowdonia from the front rooms. Access is via a private internal staircase with the option of a STENNA chairlift for the less abled. It has been decorated and furnished in a contemporary style. This private location on Oakley Wharf (part of the coastal path) is a 10 min walk from the High Street. Using the costal path to Borth y Gest, which starts near the cottage, it will take 10 mins to reach the beach at Borth y Gest. Porthmadog is popular because of its compactness and being so close to both the sea and the mountains. Guests love the three different train attractions. Short walk to the shops and restaurants and leisure centre. Just around the corner is the little Ffestiniog Steam train station when you can enjoy a slow sedate train ride up the Snowdonia Valley. This is a good central location for a holiday property in North Wales.

Guest Feedback:
GH (New years Eve 2024):
Excellent "A very lovely view from the living room window made for a cozy stay. We enjoyed it! Great restaurants in walking distance. Easy parking and close to hiking locations. It was also fun to watch the steam train every morning cross the landscape out the window."
LP (April 2023): Excellent "Really lovely apartment… clean and spacious with fantastic views. Great location for exploring beaches and mountains and also for exploring Porthmadog. Felt central and close to the restaurants, harbour, shops etc but was really quiet."
JD (October 2022): Excellent "A very nice first floor apartment with a lovely view over the harbour. Comfortable beds, spacious kitchen, huge bath, lovely view. Sofa and chair comfortable. Would appreciate a tin opener and more coat hangers. Beware the sloping ceilings especially in the main bedroom, the unwary (like me) could bang their head if not concentrating. Even so this would not stop me staying here again"
CL (October 2022): 4.8 STARS "Great location. Wonderful view from the lounge window of mountains and the sea/estuary/boats. Short, flat walk into the town centre. On the coast path so easy access to a number of walks. Could not fault its location"
MD (August 2022): Excellent "The best place we have stayed in, ever. We have done a lot of these types of breaks, this place has everything, location, views, comfort. A great base for discovering the area and loads to do. We loved it"
SA (August 2022): Excellent"Very clean overall , kitchen well equipped. Lovely views over the estuary. Would prefer to had enclosed outside space overlooking the estuary , but it's just the little space by the entrance, which is the other side . Very close to town walking distance . Parking is just on the road outside did manage to get spaces , but possibly hit n miss at times . Overall good place"
HT (August 2022): 4.7 STARS "We were booked at last minute when another cottage became unavailable (that previous Booking did not involve STS) . Great location, very peaceful and we loved watching the wading birds and fish early in the morning. Also perfect for the steam railway. Owner very responsive. Kitchen well equipped though I never found a can opener. There are sloping ceilings almost everywhere so watch out for head bumps. " Thanks for the comments - which will be passed on to the Owner

From the road there is a metal gate from here the floor slopes down from the road to turning by 90 degrees to the right to the front door. There is a door storm threshold. Once inside there is a small hallway leading to the carpeted staircase with 13 steps and a hand rail on the right hand side ascending. A Stenna stair lift available for the less abled upon request. There are no more steps on this floor. The corridor accessing all the rooms is wide and has spot lights. The kitchen is spacious and the bathroom has a shower suitable for the less abled with pull down seating. There is a double ended bath with the taps in the middle. There are no hand rails on or near the bath or WC. The lounge is carpeted and is spacious. The ceilings slope in all the rooms which will affect access to one side of the double bed. The single rooms are compact as per the photos. We do not think the property is suitable for anyone using a wheelchair inside the property due to compact bedrooms and bathroom facilities.

STENNA CHAIR LIFT: Guests must request for the chair lift at the time of booking so it will turn on for you arrival. This chair can be operated by the person using the chair lift. The chair lift ends at the top of the stairs and can then be swivelled to face the hallway. Note that in the event of a fire and a mains power failure, that the Chair Lift may be inoperable - so you would have to come down the stairs or be carried.

Lovely accomodation in a good location with spectacular views from the lounge overlooking the harbour. Very quiet. Home from home and spacious as there were only 2 of us. Would certainl;y come again even though we don't live too far away. Very well equipped. The only items we missed were a teapot and a clock. Excellent place to stay.
