Quarryman's Cottage, BeddgelertRef: 2007
Situated in the charming mountain village of Beddgelert, which is said to derive its name either from the faithful hound of Prince Llewellyn, or that of a Celtic missionary, depending on the view of history you subscribe to. What is not in dispute is that this terraced stone cottage built in the 1800s for men working in the local slate and copper mines, at the confluence of the Glaslyn and Colwyn Rivers, affords a sumptuous base camp to enable walkers, climbers, trail bikers, fishermen and golfers whatever their ability to enjoy all that Snowdonia National Park has to offer. This Grade II listed cottage has been sympathetically yet lovingly restored and extended to provide a contemporary kitchen, through lounge with slate hearth and wood burning stove. There is a comfortable double bedroom with mountain views and to the rear, a twin bedded room with an en-suite WC and hand wash basin. There is a luxury family bathroom complete with Japanese bathing tub and shower cubicle. Three pubs conveniently located within walking distance good food and plenty of friendly faces to share your days achievements. Unrestricted parking on the same side of the road as the cottage. There are 2 steps up into the lounge of the cottage which goes through to the kitchen/breakfast room which has a table for 4 persons. In the lounge there is a wood burning stove in the fire place with no fireguard. There is a door to the back patio which is small with a side gate with right of way round the side to the road. There are open tread stairs up to the first floor from the lounge which parents of young children should note.
There is no stairgate. The treads of the stairs are un carpeted and there is a hand rail on the right hand side as you go up. These are of standard width. The landing has a banister and the two bedrooms and bathroom lead off this. The shower cubicle has a rise of 8" into a square 90cm square tray with plastic door. The Japanese tub is 36" long 28" wide with a bathing depth of 20". To climb in to the bath you can step in if you are agile. We would say this was not suitable for the infirm, but great for bathing the children. There are no grab handles.
