Gelert House is a large family house situated in the centre of the village of Beddgelert. From the front and side of the house mountain views may be enjoyed whilst the rear of the house overlooks the river Colwyn. Within a radius of 250 yards you will have access to a post office, grocers shop, ice cream parlour and a selection of pubs, restaurants and gift shops.
Gelert House was built around 1870. It's original pupose was to serve as the tap room for the Royal Goat Hotel. Around the turn of the 20th century it became Temperance Hotel. Today it is a family home with comfortable furniture and fittings and is an excellent location for family get togethers. Beddgelert is a great base from which to explore Snowdonia National Park. Three of the best routes up Snowdon start just a few miles away and there are several other mountains within easy access. Just a short drive away are several National Trust properties, including two in the village itself, a selection castles to visit, several sandy beaches, and a number of challenging Golf courses including Porthmadog, Criccieth, Morfa Nefyn and Royal St. David's. Alternatively you may may prefer to relax under the covered verandah or in the enclosed rear garden and watch the world go by. The Welsh Highland Railway runs to Caernarfon (12miles) and Porthmadog (7miles). Porthmadog is on the coast and has shops, restaurants and supermarkets. There are sandy beaches nearby at Borth y Gest and Morfa Bychan . Several castles are nearby; Caernarfon, Harlech and Criccieth and for golfers Porthmadog is one of several courses that may be easily reached.
